11 Memories of McCormick Hall
Celebrating the building that became a Marquette legacy

This spring, McCormick Hall concludes its life as a residence hall. Marquette built McCormick Hall in 1966 as an all-boys dormitory, and today it is home to more than 700 first-year students. Here are reasons why we celebrate the end of an era.
1. Building memories

Because of its unique shape and close quarters, McCormick Hall has fostered long-lasting friendships and endless memories. Commonly called the “beer can,” the distinctive circular architectural style has made McCormick a campus icon for some 50 years.
2. Move-in day
Strategically planning how to pack the tiny elevators or sweat your way up 12 flights of stairs during move-in is no easy feat.

3. McCormick meals
This dining hall has always been a staple on campus. With its 24/7 availability, it’s the go-to spot to grab a late-night ice cream cone or bowl of cereal. Watch MUTV Arts and Entertainment Assistant Editor Nathan DeSutter spend the night in McCormick to test its new 24-hour dining services.

4. Symmetry
5. Fashion
Let’s appreciate the many photo shoots held in front of the famous McCormick Hall sign throughout the years. Fun fact: there’s a McCormick Snapchat filter that features this very sign!

6. Late nights
Bonding with your roommate as you stay up late into the night because your first class doesn’t start until noon the next day — or, more realistically, you’re procrastinating.

7. McCormick elevators
Since McCormick has 12 floors, the small elevators make for the best opportunities to meet new people, have dance parties or just stand in awkward silence.

8. Close quarters
Let’s face it, living in a pie-shaped room can be an interesting experience. Neatly fitting all your possessions on one side of the room is quite an accomplishment — until the mess returns by the end of the week.

9. Hallways
The sense of accomplishment navigating the curved maze-like hallways.

10. Friendship
Close quarters make for close friends. McCormick has been known as one of the most social dorm on campus — rightfully so. McCormick: Building friendships since 1966.
11. Marquette pride
McCormick is a symbol of Marquette tradition. This building has been home to many memories and generations of Marquette students.
