“The Foley Foundation is excited to welcome Hope Moses as our inaugural James Foley Fellow. This would not be possible without the support of the James P. Ruder Foundation. I am excited to work with Hope in promoting the necessary safety tools as well as inspiring moral courage for the next generation of journalists. Hope’s infectious personality and desire to be a voice for others aligns with Jim’s belief that we have the ability — and responsibility — to be men and women for others.” Tom Durkin, Education Program Director for the Foley Foundation

My name is Hope Moses, and I am a sophomore studying journalism and data science (INDS) at Marquette University. I am from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from Pius XI Catholic School.

Some of the things I do in our campus community include: resident assistant, assistant opinions editor at the Marquette Wire, social media manager for Marquette’s NAACP chapter, Educational Opportunity Program, and club tennis.

When I was younger, I had a feeling I would do something really important with my life. This fellowship feels like the beginning of my purpose, which makes me excited for where this opportunity will lead me. I am deeply grateful for the James Foley Foundation and the kindness that has been extended to me since accepting the fellowship. I am excited for this next year and what it brings.

My favorite Marquette memories are the ones that include my best friends! Marquette has introduced to some of the most talented, kind, intelligent, and caring people I have ever met. Any time spent with them becomes my new favorite MU memory!

I am not sure where I will be in five years, but I fully intend on using all the opportunities I have had and have yet to experience, to leave the world a better place than I found it. I am not sure what exactly that looks like, but I am excited to see where life takes me after MU!

I would like to express the deepest gratitude for Marquette University and the Diederich College of Communication as I step into this new year. The overwhelming support I have gotten over this past year has helped propel me forward and motivate me to be the best student, human being and Christian I could possibly be.

So from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I would also like to give a special thanks to the EOP program and all they have done to assist me in being successful at Marquette as a first-generation student. And also, a thanks to my professors, family and friends for pushing and motivating me to be the difference.
